Jolie Laide explores ideas of the body, sexuality and gender, questioning perceptions of normality through distorting and manipulating the human body. It aims to obscure notions of beauty and explore the concept of the abject, that which exists on the boundaries of what is considered socially acceptable, confronting cultural taboos whilst blurring the line between the human and nonhuman form. This project imitates and exaggerates these notions, deconstructing and emphasising aspects of the body in an attempt to recontextualise the female form.
